It worked. In device manager ,under storage controllers ,"USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" comes up when i connect the hdd, other than that the hdd is not detected and also the I lost years worth of photos because of this one step I did. Flash Drive Not Showing Up Mac Thanks again.
I wonder if there was an update that killed it. The problem is that when I plug it in it is first recognized (at least it sees something) and then it goes away (with the corresponding sound). I need the data. If the drive does work on other computers — or you don’t have another computer around to test this with — Windows may be having a driver problem with the drive. One additional thing I noticed is when you plug in one of the already formatted previously used USB/HD devices the power light comes on them but does not do so on iwas told to format it to NTFS.

For how many times I've tried to search and follow instructions on the internet, this is the most helpful one of all. They can only access drives formatted with the older FAT32 file system. I'd been reading "other" site with "how to", nothing as clear and concise as the above.
