My laptop has the NVIDIA GT640M graphics card on If you can get to the log in screen in Win 8/8.1 there is a power icon in the bottom right hand raj same problem but I cant access my pc it stuck on diagonosic your pc and my compuer does not show bios option how can disable this when computer stuck on Continue to hold the shift key down until an options screen pops up withe several options. when i click on restart .

SO very glad that it worked. Both problems now fixed. MS support were clueless. Open Task Manager, go to Startup tab and disable unnecessary items from startup.
However, as that original configuration went back and worked, it did not solve the problem of Restart; which still does not work! the only thing I can do from preventing it from restarting automatically is press f2 as soon as it starts. No problem! At this point I have a clean install of 8.1 and a Recovery Media.

The instructions below will trigger this behavior, more detailed instructions on disabling automatic restart on system failure are also available in our knowledgebase. Now works like should. Most of the times these kind of issues are related with the new "Hybrid Shutdown" (also known as "Fast Startup") feature introduced in Windows 8.
