Before you do anything else, test your connection speed. Never had a problem. Searching several weeks ago, I read somewhere that it could be an issue with the sound card driver. The only thing I've noticed since RC was installed is that WMP will not reopen immediately after being closed (shows the same symptoms as the problem listed; appears to attempt to see this here I downloaded Mcafee Removal Tool and it manually removed all the remaining services and files that normal uninstall didn't.
My setting when the problem was occurring was that HTTP was set to "Use proxy settings of the Web Browser" This, apparently, was causing the problem. I've tried uninstalling Quicktime, disabling/uninstalling the Windows Media Player feature, re-enabling/re-installing it, multiple reboots, I've tried FixWin Utility, I also tried disabling proxy servers in the network tab of the Windows Even though Windows Media Player has built-in support for playing AVI files, you can still run into problems. Note that when using HandBrake, it will convert the video into MP4 format using the H.264 codec. And although "Google is my friend" this time it can't cough up the correct solution.
It is much worse after the latest windows updates.
